Important points to consider when interviewing insurance companies or reviewing your present health coverage...
- Is your plan a true Major Medical PPO Plan or does it have restrictions and caps as to what the insurance company will pay?
- Can you choose your doctors and hospitals or must you have a referral, commonly called the "gate keeper" when you need a specialist?
- Can you be singled out for cancellation?
- Can you be singled out for rate increases due to medical condition?
- Are you covered on or off the job - 24 hours a day?
- Does you coverage change when you travel outside of Florida?
- Do you have Worldwide coverage?
- If you move, can you take the plan with you?
- If you are self-employed are you sure you are covered on the job?
- Do you need to see the primary physician to get a referral to a specialist?
- Does your plan have a "Utilization Review" that determines treatment limitations?
- In case of a terminal illness, can you get a lump sum payment to help with the bills, seek alternative treatment or use the money for living expenses? (Available through our Critical Illness Plan)
- Are you able to custom design your own plan and pay only for what you choose? Or are you paying for benefits you do not use?
- If you are on a group insurance plan, is it too expensive to insure the other members of your family?
